A charming groundcover with silvery, fuzzy foliage, Pussytoes is named for its soft flower clusters that resemble tiny cat paws. This low-growing native is one of the earliest bloomers in spring, producing white to pinkish flower heads that attract pollinators when little else is in bloom.
Pussytoes spread gently to form mats, making them excellent for rock gardens, slopes, or as a native alternative to turf in sunny, dry spots. They’re especially valuable as the host plant for the American Lady butterfly, whose caterpillars rely on them. Once established, Pussytoes are drought-tolerant and thrive in poor, sandy, or rocky soils.
