A tall, broad, shrub-like perennial — spikes of white to cream pea-like flowers rise like candelabra above a mound of blue-green trifoliate foliage in late spring.. After flowering, the swollen black seedpods rattle in the breeze and persist as dramatic dried arrangements through fall and winter. Long-lived and trouble-free once established. Deep roots make it extremely drought tolerant.
