Learn how to create beautiful, low-maintenance gardens that support butterflies, bees, birds, and other wildlife — whether you have a large backyard, a small garden bed, or just a few containers.

About the Talk:
Making Room for Nature: Native Gardening for Every Yard is a practical, down-to-earth introduction to gardening with native plants, filled with real-life successes, mistakes, and lessons learned along the way. We'll explore why native plants matter, how to choose the right plants for your space, and simple, affordable ways to turn even a small patch of your yard into a thriving habitat.

About the Speaker:
Princy Francis is the founder of Blue Violet Natives, a small backyard native plant nursery in Boyds, Maryland. Before turning her attention to native plants, she spent her career in biomedical research, earning a PhD in cancer molecular biology and working at the NIH, Mayo Clinic, and as Chief Science Officer at a biotech startup. Today, she grows pesticide-free, pollinator-friendly native perennials and grasses and helps homeowners create beautiful, wildlife-friendly gardens. She also serves on the board of the Friends of Black Hill Nature Programs, where she helps lead gardening activities and organize the annual native plant sale.
