Enormous, brilliant scarlet flowers and deeply cut leaves give this southeastern native an almost tropical drama that stops visitors cold. Growing 6-8 feet tall in wet conditions, it commands attention from across the garden. Hummingbirds and giant swallowtails are its primary admirers. Dies back to the ground each winter and returns reliably.
