A shrubby legume covered in small yellow pea-flowers in late spring, followed by inflated seedpods that rattle in autumn. Extremely drought tolerant with deep roots that fix nitrogen and improve surrounding soil. Long-lived and structurally attractive, it's essentially care-free after the first year. A host plant for several skipper butterflies.
