One of the most underappreciated native wildflowers — elegant, tough and genuinely interesting in every season. Star-shaped greenish-white flowers appear in late spring to early summer on tall, branching stems above deeply divided, hairy leaves. But the real show comes after bloom: the distinctive thimble-shaped seed heads elongate and gradually become fluffy, cottony white plumes that persist through winter, catching light and moving in the breeze. Thrives in dry to average soils with almost no maintenance. Deer and rabbit resistant.
