An unusual sunflower with most of its foliage in a basal rosette and tall, nearly leafless flowering stems rising above. Bright yellow flowers bloom in late summer and fall, attracting butterflies and native bees. The seeds feed goldfinches, chickadees, and nuthatches into winter. Drought tolerant and well-suited to lean, sunny soils.
